Muna 2017

Passion, enthusiasm and knowledge were on display last Saturday, 20th May, at Parliament House, Sydney. This was where Rotary District 9675’s MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) was conducted. Some twenty high schools from the district sent teams of Year Ten and Eleven students to debate resolutions, expressing opinions of the country they were representing.

The first session was conducted with decorum, with all participants showing respect for the delegate speaking, however, after encouragement from the ‘General Secretary’ teams found their voices and debate quickly ensued.

The team which came first represented Japan and were pupils from St Patrick’s Sutherland, third were students from SCEGGS, Darlinghurst and the runner-up team came from Merrylands High, a school in our local area. The adjudicator, in presenting the winners, assured all that it was purely coincidence that he was an ex-pupil of Merrylands High. Not only was he an ex-pupil but so were the other five people in this photo which was taken with the team from Merrylands. They are District Governor Stephen Humphrys and his wife Judith, District Governor Elect Stephen Britten and Immediate Past District Governor Graham Wilson and his wife Helen.
