HOLROYD ROTARY DONATES PEACE POLES TO LOCAL SCHOOLS

Holroyd Rotary Club was proud to be able to be part of the 100 Peace Pole program initiated by Canberra Burley Griffin Rotary Club.  Their aim is to have 100 Peace Poles distributed to 100 Schools throughout Australia.

The Peace Pole program had its beginnings in 1955. You can now find Peace Poles in close to 200 countries and more than 200,000 have been placed around the World.

Our local Primary schools where very keen to participate in the program – with Hill Top, Greystanes, Guildford, Guildford West and St. Patricks Guildford all grateful recipients.

Each pole has the Universal Peace Message “May Peace Prevail on Earth”. The peace message is written in English and for poles in the Holroyd area Dharug/Darug which is the Dalang language of the Sydney Basin The Dharug Ngurra Aboriginal Corporation gave us the Indigenous language and “Dharug” is written on the poles. The Peace Poles can also be inscribed with two local community languages.  The poles symbolise our common wish for a World at Peace. They stand as a silent vigil for peace reminding us to think and act in the spirit of peace.
